Dropbox- Bobie
(twiducate)
Cloud based storage
Communicate with a team in the building
*it is unacceptable to delete a folder. If you created a folder and want to delete it, assign the folder to someone else. If you just delete it, others will not have access to it.
o Media takes up tons of space, grab media out of dropbox and save
o Dropbox is not an archive site (usually unless you pay for extra space)
o Dropbox uses a “business model” it is there to make money if you really get into it, and want to archive here, it is probably good to buy extra storage space.
o In Dropbox, only favorite (starred) items stay on iPad
o Check with school to see if you can use legislative money to pay for extra storage.

o Get list of all parents emails – I will definitely use this for learner analysis, and demographic information
o Can set as anonymous
o Chandra – family fitness challenge

What is a reflection blog?
Talk about the new technology and how you’re going to us it.
We don’t have to make citations when we are writing in our reflection blog or reading discussion.
If you are doing your notes separately, put a link to the notes too. Otherwise merge the notes and reflection and in your reflection, or put a link in your comments.
iTunes U- all recorded classes on iTunes U linked from the weekly agenda.
Understoodit.com/albion Good to get immediate feedback from the lesson and whether students were understanding it.
Teachers have taken to Twitter, we are going to where the teachers are that’s why we use Twitter.
Go where teachers are going to be.
Link to show the number of users using a certain network.
Sound hound for iPhone (app) play some music and it will bring up the music and lyrics.
Garden analogy – tools to cultivate garden: twitter, pinteret, facebook, LinkedIn, you don’t have to use everything but you should try them. “Big tools” may not be appropriate for students to use. You might be able to use it with your students but set some parameters.
Try the tools but understand that not every one of them will be a good fit.
Facebook
we need to always be aware of safety to protect teacher. Don’t add students.
Personal account
Professional account- mainly PLN network – different password from personal
On professional, instead of searching for persons, search for things i.e. scholastic, good way to find different educational networks. Donors choose page, to friend, CEA, NSTA, UEA, National Geographic, NABT, UCET.
Create your own group page – build your own PLN from here. (friends of friends) good way to build PLN with other teachers.
Use it with parents. If you put kid pics, you need to have open release signatures. UCET page you can find information about what is going on with technology.
Pinterest
How to use it in class
Type in units, lesson plans, pictures
Find Chandra on Pinterest and follow her
Don’t follow a person, follow their boards.
Lots or resources for using Twitter, email Bobbie or Chandra if you still have questions.
Feedly is being marked as the best replacement for google reader
Feedly.com – lets you subscribe to different blogs and just bring in what you want to.
To sign up for feedly use csd gmail account.
Get the blog feed by email,
Edublogs best blogs in education. Link on agenda
Now reading discussions are going to be through "Subtext"

Class Notes 4/4/2013
Web 2.0 Is a community of learners connected on the internet Teachers can set up PLN (personal learning networks) there is a huge population of learners on the internet that share lessons, ideas and get help from one another
One of the best ways to start a PLN is to set up a Twitter account Twitter is a mini blog 140 characters (including spaces)
Creative Commons is a good place to go to find resources that are not copyrighted and you can use with out fear of copyright violations.
The first half of the course is focused on developing PLNs and learning how to use social networking. The second half we will teach our students to use the same technologies and then use them in the classroom.
We need to take class notes and submit a reflection blog each week. This will be part of our e portfolio and posted to our Weebly.
We will do a reading discussion each week. The reading will come from various sources ( mostly internet articles.)We need to respond to at least 2 students during the week.
After the break we mostly worked on posting to twitter. I made my first "tweet". download tweetdeck to the computer. Also a good starting place for PLN is classroom 2.0
